Art-Direct a 12-Image AI Visual Series
Maps to: Illustrator · Art Director · Designer · Visual Artist · Concept Artist
Generate a hundred AI images, then prove you've got the eye to pick the twelve that belong together. You'll lock one signature look and art-direct a series so tight a stranger can tell at a glance it's all one body of work. Making images is easy now; the taste to choose the right twelve is the whole skill, and it's yours.
How this shows up on a resume or college app
I art-directed a 12-image visual series with a signature style, generating a hundred options and curating down to the twelve that held together against my concept. I learned that AI gives you a million options and the real work is developing the taste to pick twelve.

The plan
- 1
Step 1
Pick a concept + write the artist statement
Pick a visual concept and write a one-paragraph artist statement: what the series is about and the look you're chasing. That statement is the ruler you'll measure every image against.
- 2
Steps 2–3
Generate 50–100 candidates
Generate a LOT (50 to 100 candidates), iterating the prompt toward your style. Around candidate #40 it'll feel repetitive and your morale will dip. Push through: the series emerges in the editing, not the generating.
- 3
Step 4
Cut to 12 + unify the treatment
The real work: cut your pile down to the 12 that answer the concept, and defend each cut against the statement, not 'is this a cool image.' Then apply a unifying treatment so they read as one series.
- 4
Step 5
Post it + close
Post the series (Instagram, a free gallery, or a zine PDF) and share it. See which images people respond to, and whether they read it as one coherent series.
