Art-Direct a 12-Image AI Visual Series

Maps to: Illustrator · Art Director, Designer, Visual Artist, Concept Artist

Generate a hundred AI images, then prove you've got the eye to pick the twelve that belong together. You'll lock one signature look and art-direct a series so tight a stranger can tell at a glance it's all one body of work. Making images is easy now; the taste to choose the right twelve is the whole skill, and it's yours.

The plan

0/4 done

You're 20% in just for starting, the hardest part. Mark your first step done to keep the momentum.

  1. Pick a visual concept and write a one-paragraph artist statement: what the series is about and the look you're chasing. That statement is the ruler you'll measure every image against.

    Objective: A concept + a one-paragraph artist statement.

    1. 1

Pick the concept: an aesthetic (future workwear, alt-architecture, dream landscapes) / a constraint (one color, one subject) / a mood / 'what if [place] looked like [style].'

    2. 2

Write a paragraph: what the series explores and the visual identity you want.

    Your call

Choose the concept and write the artist statement yourself.

The through-line a stranger should see across all 12.

What good looks like: Your statement is concrete enough to act as a ruler: a stranger could use it to tell which images belong and which don't.

    • The tighter the concept, the more obvious it is which images don't belong.

The bar to look back against

Twelve images a stranger can instantly see are one series (selected from many, with a unifying treatment), and you can defend why each earned its spot against your concept. The selection is the work: not "I made some cool images," but "these twelve hold together, and I can say why."

Finish the final step, then submit what you built. Your progress is saved.

How this shows up on a resume or college app

I art-directed a 12-image visual series with a signature style, generating a hundred options and curating down to the twelve that held together against my concept. I learned that AI gives you a million options and the real work is developing the taste to pick twelve.
